An Adventure in the Land of the Thunder Dragon
7 NIGHT AMANKORA JOURNEY
THIMPHU- PUNAKHA – PARO
The tiny Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan awaits. Nestled high in the Himalayas, its isolation from the world has cultivated a culture rich with tradition, religion and a benevolent monarchy. The dramatic landscape, from snow capped peaks and deeply forested slopes to raging boulder- strewn rivers, sits largely undisturbed due to various environmental initiatives and religious beliefs. For an exotic ceremony, Amanjena, near Marrakech, can arrange a traditional Moroccan wedding. Pink-hued rose petals, whose scent fills the air, adorn the various water pools and fountains dotted around the property. Arabian music plays softly in the background as the wedding couple are prepared according to the ancient rites of the harem – with a traditional hammam followed by a massage and henné tatouage.
A wedding carriage carries the bride to her husband-to-be led by Moroccan chants whilst he accompanies the musicians on horseback.
After the wedding ceremony the couple unite travelling by carriage to a traditional reception of milk, dates and orange-flower water. Rose petals are scattered over them for luck.
As dusk falls, the wedding party enter the tented canopies scattered amongst the olive grove for an exotic feast including Moroccan tea and pastries. Andalusian music and belly dancers entertain the wedding party throughout the balmy night.
Set high on a peninsula overlooking the Andaman Sea, Amanpuri’s Villa Homes provide a picturesque setting for an informal Thai Buddhist, Christian or non-religious wedding blessing. Set amidst coconut palms, the two to six-bedroom Villa Homes each have a living and open air dining sala, separate bedroom pavilions and spacious common areas with their own pool. Villa Homes offer the seclusion and intimacy of a private home as well as access to Amanpuri’s facilities and services. For ceremonies, the villas can be decorated with flower petals, fragrant jasmine, orchids and floral archways. White and pale pink lotus flowers can float in the pool whilst all open-air spaces can be lit with candles and torches at night.
Rimmed by a white sand beach and blue waters teeming with marine life, the island resort of Amanpulo or “peaceful island” is far from the madding crowd and provides an ideal setting for romance.
With Romance at Amanpulo, guests can enjoy a five-night offer that includes accommodation in a Beach Casita, welcome champagne, welcome fruits platter, three meals a day and a serenaded sunset cruise with cocktails and canapés.
Also included are a private beach barbecue and a massage for two. The highlight of a romantic trip to this secluded island is a sentimental “blessing” on the beach at sunset.
